 | The 5-year Master Plan identified three capital projects for the Midlothian Park District. Very preliminary drawings for expansion of the Don Preston Recreation Center as well as upgrades at Splish Splash Pool and Memorial Park were presented at a public meeting on October 30. Input was received from the public regarding the size of the buildings and the type of amenities in each project. The Concept A design for the building was abandoned because of the cost. The architects will be presenting final concept drawings on each of the three projects at a public meeting set for December 9 at 7 p.m. at the Don Preston Recreation Center located at 14500 S. Kostner. Please join us to share your opinions.
The Board of Commissioners expects to decide at their December 18 board meeting which projects will be move forward. Based on community input, the Board will determine whether or not to present a public question on the issuance of bonds for the April 2009 consolidated election.
Please feel free to look at the various concepts and send your questions or concerns to us. You can email us at info@midlothianparkdistrict.org or call us at 708-371-6191.

 | Midlothian Park District Commissioner Tim Powers announced that “Chico” Johnson is the treasure for the month of December. Superintendent of Parks Jerry Gillis nominated “Chico” for an outstanding job organizing and logging the work orders for the maintenance department. “Although this is part of his job responsibility, “Chico” went above and beyond what I expected,” said Gillis.
Chico has worked for the Midlothian Park District for six and a half years. He is currently the Maintenance Foreman and oversees three other full time employees as well as seasonal workers. He and his wife Pat live in Midlothian where they have raised their three daughters Jackie, Jen and Allison. “Chico” is an avid sports fan—especially the Chicago White Sox. He has been active in Midlothian Girls Softball and still teaches the instructional softball classes at the park district. He also plays guitar and enjoys jamming with other local talent. Thanks for all you do for us, “Chico”—YOU are a treasure!
